Getting Stared Guide

Introduction to Genealogy

Why do you have dark hair? Why do you have the interests you have? both these questions can be answered with genealogy.

What is Genealogy?

Genealogy is the study and research of family pedigrees. Some people know what they want out of genealogy, such finding out who their great grandfather was and what he did. Others what to find every relation on planet and put them in their tree. No matter what you name is, it will have a history behind it.

With the technology that exsists today, genealogy is a hobby that anyone can get into. However the internet is not the answer. There and many different websites out there that offer records online, however these records need to be backed up with evidence, this is where places such as the Family History Centre come.

Most people start genealogy because of a new member joining it either by birth or marrige or the passing of someone. Others like my self started genealogy because no one knows anything about they family.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the "LDS" began a researching program which involved transcribing records onto Mircofilm. Most of these records can also be search online at www.familysearch.org. All the original microfilms and microfiches are held at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City Utah. The Family History Library has over 4000 interational branches known as Family History Centres.
